How To Tags vs Custom Fields

How To Tags vs Custom Fields Today we got an email asking how to track something on a Job record.  Liz (who many of you have met online) responded saying to use Tags. Tags are awesome. That is, A.W.E.S.O.M.E. But sometimes Tags are not the solution.  Sometimes you want to use Custom Fields.  Here is how they differ: Tags are like a label.  Just like you use on Gmail (aka, labels), Flickr, etc. Custom fields have two parts.  Think of it with this example: Job Number: 123124 When you set up a custom field you put in the NAME of the field in this case, Job Number (this might be what HR or the recruiter refers to). Every time you add a new job record you can choose Job Number from the custom field drop down (since you already added it). The value of the custom field for that job is 123124.  The next job you put in might have a different value, like EMC097345 When would you use Tags, and when would you use Custom Fields? I would use Tags when I wanted to GROUP or CATEGORIZE people for example: hiring_manager, recruiter, high_tech, friend, family, etc. I would use Custom Fields when I wanted to have a new FIELD on the Detail Page (of Contacts, Jobs or Companies), and each record could have a different value.  Think of this the same way that you have Last Name as a field, and different last names for each record. So, two great ways to add more information to each record. NOTE: For more information on Tags, check out this post: How I use Tags to organize my Contacts, Companies, Jobs How To Tags vs Custom Fields Today we got an email asking how to track something on a Job record.  Liz (who many of you have met online) responded saying to use Tags. How to Buy the Perfect Bed for Growing Kids

How to Buy the Perfect Bed for Growing Kids One of the hangups for parents is the fear that you’ll buy beautiful furniture that is rendered obsolete in a few years because your child has grown. And you don’t want to buy furniture now that isn’t right for your child until they’re a little older in the hope of saving money. Here are a few tips on how to buy the perfect bed for growing kids. Switch at the Right Time An infant needs to be on a crib mattress in a crib. It doesn’t matter if the toddler wants to be in a big kid’s bed. Wait until the child is at least 18 months old to put them in a normal bed, though you can wait as long as age 3. Having a good crib mattress is essential for young children to ensure airflow if they roll over and sleep face down on the mattress. Very young children need a more firm and supportive mattress, too, for proper bone formation. Find Bed Solutions You Can Use for a Long Time This could be a toddler bed that is much smaller than a standard twin sized mattress. One possible solution to the desire to save money is to buy a crib that converts to a toddler bed, so you don’t have to buy an intermediate bed for the child. Or you could buy a twin bed while supplementing it with bed rails to minimize the chance of the child falling out. Recognize that any mattress is going to be replaced in ten years as it wears out. Also consider issues your child is dealing with. If the child is still wetting the bed, you should either have a good mattress cover or buy a mattress that can be easily cleaned, though combining these options is wise. Buy the Right Type of Mattress You can find children’s mattresses in nearly the same range of materials and styles as adult beds. Spring mattresses are cheap and generally comfortable, though you may not want a super-bouncy one when you have young children. Latex and memory foam can make a warm house or child prone to overheating more comfortable at night. If your child is prone to allergies, especially dust mites, you should consider a mattress with synthetic fill. If your child is allergic to latex, do not get a foam mattress that contains latex. Conversely, you shouldn’t give the child a thin foam mattress that’s not much more than a blanket over the bed frame; your child’s discomfort while sleeping means they’ll wake up more often at night. You can run into the same problem if the child’s foam mattress is simply too firm and hard, regardless of its actual thickness. Unless your child has issues like overheating or a doctor’s recommendation, the safest solution is a good quality spring mattress. These tips should allow you to find the perfect bed and mattress combination for your growing child’s needs. Make sure that you choose bedding that is safe and that will be adaptable as your child grows.

Lessons Learned from 3 Recent Personal Branding Disasters - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Lessons Learned from 3 Recent Personal Branding Disasters - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career It’s easy to see other’s personal brands take a turn for the worse when they’re in the spotlight. But it’s important to take lessons from those disasters. Let’s take a look at some recent issues facing public figures: Hosni Mubarak If you follow global news (and even if you don’t), you’ve heard about the recent rebellion and protests in Egypt. The president, Honsi Mubarak, took a beating in the media for the lack of decisions spiraling the country into chaos. One of the big personal branding lessons to take away from this situation is to be open to feedback. The whole country was rebelling, but it still took two weeks for Mubarak to officially step downâ€"not one of the best decisions when you’re running a country. Miley Cyrus Recently, young Disney star Miley Cyrus was caught smoking salvia on a video released by a fellow partygoer. Known for her squeaky-clean character Hannah Montana on the Disney channel, the news came as a shock to many of her fans. Also, as a role model to young girls everywhere, the incident caused parents everywhere outrage. As someone in the public eye, Cyrus should have avoided the situation altogether, knowing what could come of it. But because she’s young, she realizes that she’s going to make mistakes. In a recent interview, she said, “For me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for,” which shows that she’s willing to admit her mistakesâ€"good news for her personal brand, although she may not be able to completely come back from the incident. Mike Starr Alice in Chains bassist and Celebrity Rehab alum Mike Starr was recently arrested on drug charges. On the newest season of Celebrity Rehab, Starr served as a shining example of a former patient who was staying clean, despite his turmoil depicted on his season of the show. Unfortunately, this news can be devastating to his personal brand. Although addiction is an ongoing disease, he positioned himself as a role model and was quickly taken off that pedestal. It’s important for him to instill confidence back into his fans and followers by taking charge of the situation by releasing a statement or rendering the incident by checking back into rehab. What other recent personal branding disasters do you think provide good lessons? Author: Heather R. These tips will help you acquire a career in the fitness industry.1. Set GoalsevalBefore you start doing anything, you need to decide what you want to accomplish by becoming a professional fitness trainer.evalMaybe you want to transform your lifestyle into a career, or maybe you want to see other people healthier and happier in their lives. Whatever the goals are, you must have the passion in you to do that.Successful fitness trainers love to inspire others and make them feel positive about embracing a he althy lifestyle.A professional trainer always follows their advice and tries to improve their lifestyles through learning and to challenge themselves physically.Your clients will look up to you for guidance, and since you will be encouraging and motivating your clients to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle, it’s important that you lead them by example.evalIt’s a trainer’s responsibility to motivate their clients and help them understand that they can achieve their fitness goals. To lead others by example, it’s necessary for you to be in best physical and mental state. This will mainly motivate your clients and help them to keep on track.Regardless of your objectives and goals, it’s important that you’re motivated, passionate and a leader; to make your clients feel confident in the training sessions.2. Consider Hiring a Personal Trainer for YourselfThe best way to involve yourself in the fitness industry is by experiencing it first-hand. This could be a perfect opportu nity for you to see what you would want to be and how you will have to conduct your training sessions. Is your trainer effective with their training methods? This an excellent opportunity to learn different methods and use them to improve your techniques.Since every professional trainer has their training style, consider developing authenticity in your training approach. While some fitness trainers have a gentle approach towards their clients, others have a more sound approach. You should develop your training style; while ensuring that it works for your customers as well. You can also master multiple training techniques, this will enable you to work with different clients, and will lead you to an even larger client-base.Establishing a professional relationship with your trainer and other employees will be beneficial to your fitness career. This can build credibility and help you develop long-term relationships with your clients and trainers.3. Get CertificationsevalWhen pursuing a fit ness career, you will be required to have a trainer’s certifications. But how do you get them? There are different ways through which you can get yourself certified, but the most important thing at this time is to look into associations that have third party accreditation. This will ensure you that their certification is recognized among the fitness industry. To obtain your trainer’s certification, you will have to invest time and dedicate yourself to the program. From body building trainer to a sports condition specialist to post rehabilitation trainer; there are different options in fitness sector for you to have a certified trainer’s career. It’s important for you to have your goals in mind when selecting a certification program for yourself. Are you looking to train athletes, or you want to be a children’s trainer?Having firm goals will enable you to focus more on programs that are of your interests.eval4. Prepare a ResumeOnce you have acquired your certifications, it’s time for you to market yourself. At this point you have put so much hard work into learning and getting yourself as a certified trainer, now you need to create a well-crafted resume and market your name out there.Just like other professions, prepare a resume that highlights your education, objective and experience. This will be an essential step towards getting a well-respected job. When preparing your resume, there are a few things you may want to consider. If you’re just getting started and have no much experience in the fitness industry, try to visit and distribute your resumes at local gyms.Since gym owners will be judging and associating your passion and personality on how well you will fit in their programs, this is a great opportunity for you to prove them that you can be a great addition to their gym team.A professional trainer is their own best marketer and can market themselves effectively when they are training more and more clients. But remember, you must first prepare a resume that defines your objective, education, and experience in a clearer and simpler way.5. Grow RelationshipsevalDeveloping relationships with everyone at your gym will bring you many opportunities that you may have missed if you didn’t know all your clients.Always try to see your employees and your clients as an opportunity to market your name. It’s a great way to create a positive reputation and for your customers to say your name when they meet someone who wants to train with a certified trainer.Since the employees and clients at your gym interact with different kinds of people, they will most likely have connections with people throughout the day.So when someone comes to your gym and asks for a personal trainer, they will most probably think of you and refer you to them. Since you’re passionate about training others, marketing yourself through networking will be beneficial to your career.6. Specialize yourselfPersonal training is a very competitive market. The right way to make yourself stand out from the competition is by focusing on your niche.Decide on whether acquiring multiple certifications can be beneficial for your or not. Instead of having only one certification, you can go for other options to specialize this diverse market.Although your focus will be largely on fitness training, you can easily get different other specialized certifications. Doing this will allow you to have different clients and expand your market.Fitness Training Certifications includes:Personal trainerStrength trainerSports conditioning specialistSenior fitnessPost-RehabChildren’s fitness specialistFollowing these steps are necessary if you want to build a relationship with your clients, understand their objectives and expand your clientele. If you’re just getting started with your fitness career, don’t jump on marketing yourself right away.Start by working on one step at a time. Your career will gradually but positively grow.Just like you and any other fitnes s enthusiast, I share a similar passion for the fitness industry and its benefits in inspiring others through our knowledge.
